SCHOFIELD HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE

Calling all Schofield Middle School Students! It is the time of year when everyone is in a giving mood, and that makes it the time for the Schofield Holiday Food Drive! Please ask your parents to help the Student Council with this very worthy cause, and shop food for other students in our area that need our help. You will be receiving a notice with a shopping list for your parents. Please take it home and share it with your folks. You can drop off your non-perishable items in boxes located in the Main Office, Deans' Office, or Counseling office.

 

LADY TIGERS BASKETBALL

There will be a MANDATORY meeting on Monday, November 17, after school in Room 814 for all girls interested in trying out for the basketball team!  The meeting will last approximately one hour.  Packets and important tryout information will be provided at the meeting. Athletic packets must be completed and return to Coach Byrne by Monday, December 1 at 2:20 p.m.

FLYING TIGER BASKETBALL

There will be a MANDATORY meeting next Thursday, November 20, after school in the Gynasium for all boys interested in trying out for the basketball team!  The meeting will be followed by intramurals until the late bus arrives.  You can still pick up your athletic packets from Coach Murray in the locker room. Athletic packets must be completed and return to Coach Murray before the Thanksgiving break starting on Wednesday, November 26 at 2:20 p.m.

 

Scholastic Book Fair

The Schofield Library will be sponsoring a Scholastic Book Fair November 24 to 26 and December 1 to 5. There will be a wide array of books and gifts available for purchase. All proceeds from sales will benefit the school library. Parents are welcome to visit the bookfair anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. in the library. Parents, please sign-in at the main office before visiting the library.

 

Schofield Madrigal Singers Performances

The Schofield Madrigal Singers were asked to perform for the Traveling Vietnam Wall Ceremony on Friday, November 7, 2008, at Davis Memorial Funeral Home. You are invited to come and see this breath taking tribute to those who died during the Vietnam War, as well as come out and hear the kids sing :-) The ceremony will be outside in the David Memorial Funeral Home Cemetery and starts at 7:00 pm and ends at 8:00 pm. Student report time is 6:15 p.m.

Davis Memorial Funeral Home is located at 6200 S. Eastern in Las Vegas (on the southeast corner of Eastern and Patrick Lane). 736-6200 if you need more information.

The Schofield Madrigal Singers will perform at the lighting of the Gift of Lights on Thursday, November 13 at 6:00 p.m. This is the eighth year that Schofield Middle School has been invited to perform at this wonderful community event. Students report at 5:15 p.m.

The performance will be at the South end of the park. Entrance to the Gift of Lights is from the Eastern entrance just south of the railroad tracks.

The Schofield Madrigal Singers will perform at the season opening of the Holiday Light at the Ethel M Chocolate Catus Garden on Tuesday, November 18. The will sing from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Come and support our students at this community event. Student report time is 4:15 p.m.

The Ethel M Chocolate Factory - Catus Garden is located at the intersection of Sunsent road and Mountain Vista. Proceed East on Sunset throught the light and turn left into the parking lot.

 
 

CCSD MIDDLE SCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to 6th grader West W. for earning a SILVER medal at the CCSD Middle School Chess Tournament held on October 25 at Hyde Park Middle School. Representing Schofield and earning BRONZE medals were Barry L., Adones R., Terik W., Javier C., and Charlotte M.

Flying Tiger Bowling Team #1 - Still on Top - 2007-08

After week nine, Schofield team one, Dakota R., Justin T., Xavier S. and Robert E., are STILL AT THE TOP with 22 wins and 2 loses. Keep taking out those pins guys!


Team 4 (Dylan L., Kyeu L., and Eric H.) is in 5th place with 15 wins and 6 losses and have the highest average of any team in the league and lowest handicap.


Team 5 (Matt T., Zak L., Alexandra S., and Varintorn W.) is in 11st place with a 13-8 record.


Team 2 (Vanessa W., Alex Y., Nathan A., and Ryan G.) and Team3 (Michael G., Raemond G., Jade R., and Braden W.) also boast winning records.

CONGRATULATIONS FUTURE CITIES CLUB!!!!

Congratulations to Chad M., Michael R., and Zachary T., a.k.a. Team Fortunamaia (pronounced Fortuna - maya) for their entry in the Regional Future Cities competition. The team won the Nevada Power's "Best Use of Natural Resources for Energy" award. The outstanding model of their city, constructed by the team over the last 3 months, will be in the display case in the cafeteria. Great Job Tigers!!!
 

Bobcat Pre-Season Basketball Tournament

The Lady Tigers finish 3rd in the Bob Miller Bobcat Pre-Season Challenge. Way to go Tigers!!!

 

DRAMA TALENT SHOW

The Drama Clubs' Second Annual Talent show was a smash!!! Lip-syncing to those famous hit by Elvis, Sonny and Cher, Dean Martin, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Andrew Sisters and even the Beatles brought the Audience to their feet. Can't wait for the next "really big show". Congratulations to all of the performers, tech crew and the set designers and builders. Way to Flying Tigers!!! You can ROAR with pride for your hard work.

 

 

OPEN HOUSE Events & Entertainment

Students of the Schofield Middle School Jazz Band and the students of the Advanced Choir, under the direction fo Mrs. Fleischer provided entertainment to our parents and families as they arrived at our 2007-08 School Year Open House. While in the library, Sgt. Leonard Marshall of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department spoke about internet safety, including MySpace, chat rooms, and what parents can do to protect their children on the internet. The evening was a great success. Way to go Tigers!

Congratulations to our Flying Tiger boys basketball team for their winning season. The Flying Tigers are the Southeast Region first place team and finished second in the CCSD Middle School Basketball overall standings for the 2006-2007 school year.
